Search VS Navigation

Lexxe is really slow on searching things. It is not as fast as google. The look of the site is simple, but bland. I do like the little corner entitled; clusters. It seems to make searches easier. I do not like the way the text looks like, and it just doesnt catch my attention.

Hakia seems like a jumbled mess version of google. Everything is everywhere. Images, texts, ads. I do not like it. However, i do like the two results, the web results and the reliable sites. I do hope google implements them into their search engine.

I do not like Quintura....

I do like bing. It is very nice to the eyes and i love the choices you can pick.

Mobile Web 2.0

I tried using the mobile web emulator with no success. It seems the mobile picture sends it to our main website that patrons use. I tried at home and again same thing.

I have been using mobile web. I own a smart phone, the Instinct from Samsung, and have used its web potential. If i need a recipe or a list of things i need, i click on web, and google it.

I also use it to access my emails in cause of an important message.

I also own the Microsoft Zune, which is an MP3 player, but i can use the radio, put pictures on it, and play podcasts.

I also use my phone to upload and check my profile on facebook. Facebook has a mobile use of uploading pictures from your phone, which is so easier than going through your computer.

Social Networking

I used to have a MySpace page, however i came across Facebook from a co worker at i was hooked. I deleted my MySpace and created my Facebook site that day. I love Facebook. It is the best thing ever. You can take quizzes, talk to people, find your old classmates or co-workers, and have fun. I was tired personally of junk friend requests or emails from bands and what not, but at Facebook, you dont get that. Its just a social network, not for bands who want to make it big or people who are just there to get as many friends as possible.

I have never been on Twitter as it personally never interested me. I think there is too much jargon in there for me to look at.

Internet Based 3D Virtual Worlds

Second life is very interesting. It is a unique way to socialize as well as creating an imaginative world for you. However, unlike World of Warcraft where you pay monthly to keep an account, at Second Life you pay for items, to create items, to accessorize, as well as creating and maintaining your world. I think it would be a wonderful experience, but for me, you would have to be very wealthy or do not care where your money goes to.

As for the technology it is well created. People do look like people, however you still look doll-like in a sense. I understand you can visit other places in the world, especially historical, however for the library i do not see the connection of vising online, and coming inside through the real world.

I understand that people can come together, collaborate, and think of ideas or give opinions, but that is part of the library. Most of our service and money comes from people who use our service. I do know you can check out items online, but coming inside the library, looking at items while your there, and using our resources is a lot better than a virtual world.
